Beauty Stone - Sullivan's The Beauty Stone

A Sunday afternoon in early February, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales has emerged, blinking in the "Sunshine" Cardiff Bay.

During the last six days, was as if we were inhabitants captive Hoddinnott Hall, Arthur Sullivan began our second opera recording, La Pierre Beauty (our first effort Sullivan beauty stone, Ivanhoe, was nominated for a Grammy Grant a few years ago - not bad, huh )?.

Sometimes, we feel like we never get to, but helped by many sweets and caffeine Director beautiful hand Chandos production team a lot beauty stone, and gentle, but firm, we did.

Arthur Sullivan is best known for his work with librettist WS Gilbert, a partnership that gave us such gems as The Mikado beauty stone, HMS and the Pirates of Penzance.

However, he also composed about 10 operas with other librettists, and the beauty of stone is one of those.

To learn more about this prolific Victorian composer, see Web pages Arthur Sullivan, who were present during the search beauty stone, as they had been during the sessions of Ivanhoe. On the other hand, were among the best ever studio guests behaved.

We were joined by a stellar cast of soloists - my favorite is Alan Opie in the role of the devil, Rebecca Evans as exotic Saida and Toby Spence as Philip beauty stone, Lord of Mirlemont - and our own really fabulous choir was fantastic.

In my humble opinion, this is really good music. It's catchy and memorable (goodness, is catchy and memorable - I'm still humming pieces of it), well built, pleasing to the ear, good music. However, the viola part is not particularly bright beauty stone, now I have played enough of rhythms, repeated notes and beats me see through the waltzes and polkas to rear their ugly heads again New Year next year.
